Self-assessment
Prospective students often wonder whether they can manage a dual education system study program. Mathematics is a particular topic here. Various tests can help with the decision. MathX³, our online self-assessment test in mathematics provides information about your own expertise and more. The www.bw-best.com and www.was-studiere-ich.de aptitude tests from the Ministry for Science, Research and Art offer an orientation about where to find a range of studies that are compatible with your own interests. The scholastic ability test or the qualifying examination for professionals are an additional admission requirement if you do not have a graduation diploma or a subject-related entrance qualification.

MathX³ Online self-test
MathX³ lets students test their personal level of knowledge in mathematics in classes 8 - 11. The objective is to arouse interest for mathematical questions and their applications– and to inform prospective students on a timely basis about the requirements of a technical degree course.
Sound knowledge of mathematics in the middle and senior schools is indispensible for studies in engineering sciences. It is very difficult to catch up on this basic knowledge during the course studies; interested students should therefore inform themselves as early as possible about the requirements and brush up on their school knowledge. The MathX³ self-test can help point out gaps in knowledge. The tasks are structured into ten mathematical topics from arithmetic through quadratic equations and functions to geometry. The self-test is freely available and can be taken anytime. MathX³ is also offered regularly on the Info-days of the DHBW Mannheim.
Please note: MathX³ is not a test for University eligibility, but it can provide an indication about which mathematical categories require refreshment! For students who are still uncertain about what studies are suitable for them, we recommend the self-test for study orientation form the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Education, Research and Art (www.was-studiere-ich.de).
MathX³ was developed by the Faculty of Technology at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Mannheim. More than 40,000 tests have been conducted on three levels in the interim since the start of the project in June 2008.
The MathX³ Team
The MathX³ online self-test is part of the activities of the ZeMath Center for Basic Understanding of Mathematical and Natural Sciences of the DHBW Mannheim. ZeMath develops learning modules and online tests in the basic mathematics field for University entrants in the Faculty of Technology.
Mathmsa partner project
There has been cooperation between the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Mannheim and the Learning Space Berlin, which includes the applications of programming services, mathematical contents and animation of MathX³. Additional information about Mathmsa can be found here.
Applicant Market
The order of the day in the normal exchange is that in addition to winners there are also losers; the Applicant Market of the DHBW Mannheim offers a classical win-win situation for all participants. This platform has enabled a virtual meeting of prospective students and partner companies since the beginning of 2015 under the motto „Register and be found!”, with the goal of filling open study positions quickly and efficiently. This service offer complements the partner databank on the home page, where open positions are indicated in the classical format.
“We have noticed that it is not always easy for student candidates in their application phase to filter companies that exactly fit their desired studies, since they apply directly with the companies and not with us at the DHBW Mannheim. On the other hand, it is becoming increasingly difficult for partner companies to find suitable and qualified candidates. Often the small and mid-sized “Hidden Champions“ of our partner companies are often not sufficiently noticed by the candidates. We have therefore contemplated how we can get the candidates and the companies together in another way than the classical application process and we have simply turned the normal procedure upside down”, explains Prof. Dr. Andreas Föhrenbach, vice-chancellor of the DHBW Mannheim about this special service.
Study candidates simply register online and load their profiles with desired course studies as well as acquired knowledge and qualifications in the portal. They therewith become visible on the Exchange – also to the company that perhaps would not have found them by its own effort. The advantage is crystal clear: many different companies can be reached with a single profile and the chance to find the right company for the desired course studies increases by multiples. The Applicant Market is therefore the ideal complement to active applications by the dual education system partners. The Applicant Market offers companies the possibility to view a multitude of profiles and to contact interesting candidates in a targeted manner. Mid-sized and small companies in particular are given the opportunity to enthuse potential candidates about their companies. The Applicant Market can complement the companies’ own acquisition measures and in addition enables an overview of the entire candidate situation.
The service is free of charge. Data transmission is encrypted.
More than 2,000 notifications had been sent to prospective students by April 2017 in the Applicant Market and approximately 180 search filters have been created in order to look for suitable candidates.
